George Simchuk’s Story: There Is More to Life after Mining

George Simchuk is known to be a well-adept and experienced miner. His resume’ would tell people that his skills and knowledge in the field of mining are nothing but exceptional. From the 1960s to 2000s, Mr. Simchuk has been very active in the mining industry in the United States, Chile, Panama, and Mexico. Despite the fact that mining was his first love and career, it does not mean that Mr. Simchuk’s passion only revolves around the mining industry. In fact, Mr. Simchuk may be easily regarded as a person with multiple talents and skills. Aside from being a successful mining engineer, manager, and CEO, he is also passionate about flying small airplanes, traveling around the world, and helping challenged children who are in need.

 

George Simchuk has learned how to fly while he was in Chile where he was then a mining engineer for Anaconda Company. For 45 years, Mr. Simchuk is an avid pilot. He has a commercial license and instrument rating as a pilot. His passion for traveling through the air brought him to several places in Africa. Mr. Simchuk is no ordinary adventure seeker because aside from flying, he is also very active in helping people who are in need of ample care. He became a volunteer for Flying Medical Service in Arush, Tanzania. During his service for the charity work in Tanzania, he was able to help out children living in Masai communities. His charitable work has helped African children who were in dire need of medical supplies and medicines. Upon his works in Africa, he went back to the US to help out other people.

 

In the US, George Simchuk rendered his flying skills and time with children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases. He became very active with various non-governmental organizations such as Angel Flight and Challenge Air. In the said groups, as a volunteer pilot, Mr. Simchuk has helped uplift the spirits and morale of sick children by taking them to flights on his airplane. Aside from inspiring challenged children, George Simchuk is also active in helping the environment. During winter months, he is a volunteer for Lighthawk, an organization that is dedicated in helping preserving the environment in Central America.

 

Flying and helping are not only the passion of Mr. Simchuk. He is also an avid adventure seeker. He traveled many parts of Africa and was able to trek in the base camp of Mt. Everest with his wife.
